For dosing information, please refer to the attached chart below to find the number of milligrams that you would want to start with twice daily. 

A good starting dose for most pets is 1 milligram of CBD for every 10 pounds of body weight. We recommend dosing twice daily, about twelve hours apart. For cats we recommend the 600 mg Hemp Derived Isolate tincture as they are odorless and flavorless. Each drop of oil is 1 milligram, so a 20 pound cat would use two drops, twice a day and the bottle would last 150 day, a 60 pound dog would use 6 drops, twice daily, and the bottle would last approximately 50 days. The drops can be placed on a treat or directly under the tongue if you are able to. If you are using the starting dose for 3-4 days and you don’t notice any significant improvement, chances are your pet is not getting a dose that is high enough for their body to recognize. At that point you would want to slowly increase the dose until you can see that it is working. Once you find the dose that works for your pet, use that dose as long as they are doing well. At some point down the road if your pets symptoms seem to return, it could mean that they are getting too much. As things balance and heal in their system, their body requires less CBD. So if they are still taking a more “therapeutic” dose, it may be time to cut reduce the dose until they start feeling better again. Sometimes it is even a good idea to skip a dose or two and give their system a chance to reset.

A shortened form of the word “cannabidiol” One of the most abundant active compounds or “cannabinoids” in the hemp plant. The Endocannabinoid System

For years scientists have known that certain compounds in the cannabis plant, known as phytocannabinoids, have noticeable effects on functions of the human body.  However they didn’t fully understand the reasons behind these effects. In the 1990’s scientists discovered that the brain itself produces compounds similar to phytocannabinoids, which are known as endogenous cannabinoids. These substances bind to specific sites in the brain known as cannabinoid receptors.

Cannabinoid receptor sites are located throughout the body, from the brain to the connective tissue. Cannabinoids bind to or stimulate these sites in order to regulate the function of the muscular system, immune system, nervous system and more. Scientists have discovered that cannbinoids stimulate two main receptors in the body; called CB1 and CB2.

CB1 Receptors

Cannabinoid receptor type 1 is found primarily in the central nervous system, although some of these receptors are also present in the peripheral tissues, including the endocrine glands, spleen, heart and other locations. They respond to endogenous cannabinoids, such as anandamide, as well as external cannabinoids, such as THC and CBD.

CB2 Receptors

Cannabinoid receptor type 2 is found only in peripheral tissues and is not typically found in the central nervous system. CB2 receptors respond to endogenous cannabinoids, as well as CBD, THC and other phytocannabinoids.

Together, CB1 and CB2 are responsible for regulating neuro-hormones in the body. These receptors have an active role in many different physiological processes, including memory, mood, and appetite regulation. When cannabinoids are introduced to the receptors, the receptors activate and produce physiological changes and symptom relief.

Medical Research and Implications

Research about the effects of phytocannabinoids on the body’s cannabinoid receptors is ongoing. However scientists have already learned that certain cannabinoids, such as THC, bind directly with a specific type of receptor. In the case of THC, CB1 receptors are affected. CBD, does not bind directly with either CB1 or CB2 receptors. Instead, it stimulates both types of receptors.

Cannabinoid receptors are responsible for regulating the balance of many everyday functions in the human body. These receptors are activated when cannabinoids are introduced into the body from external sources, such as CBD sublingual drops.

Full Spectrum CBD Oil in its purest form is highly concentrated and very thick (like molasses), thus making dosing and ingestion difficult for consumers.  Consequently the tinctures found on the market are diluted to a potency to make dosing more convenient.

If you read the ingredients portion of CBD tincture labels you will find that companies will use a range of different carrier oils such as  coconut oil,  hemp seed oil, olive oil, avocado oil…the list goes on. So how does the average consumer know which carrier oil will have the best absorption rate? taste? ease of use?

At first glance, it might sound reasonable that hemp seed oil would be the logical choice to make HEMP derived CBD products.  However a quick look at the science reveals something different. CBD is fat soluble by nature.  The most effective carrier oils would be those containing the highest percentage of saturated fats.  

Hemp seed oil contains approximately 11% saturated fat, in contrast, MCT coconut oil contains approximately 90% saturated fat, thus optimizing the bioavailability (or the amount the body is able to use.) MCT oil also has a very mild, pleasant taste.

On rare occasions a CBD oil users will report feeling an upset stomach, stomach pain or mild nausea after starting a CBD regimen.  This unpleasant side effect is generally not caused by the CBD itself, many times it is caused by the carrier oil.  Although carrier oils vary from one brand to the next, here at Nature’s Oils we use only organic MCT coconut oil. This oil is naturally high in saturated fats that help with the absorption of the cannabinoids into your body.  Unfortunately some individuals are sensitive to MCT oil and report having to deal with symptoms like pain, nausea or discomfort associated with its use.

If your CBD is giving you tummy trouble, the first thing you would want to do is stop taking the oil for a few days to make sure that the issue was actually being caused by the CBD oil.  Once you positively identify the oil as the cause, you can try one of the following options to be able to continue taking the CBD without the stomach upset.

1- Buy CBD in a capsule form, we have heard from our customers that when they switched over to the capsules they were gentler on their stomachs. One of our customers had such horrible stomach upset using our Full Spectrum CBD Oil, that he was considering discontinuing his use of CBD.  We recommended he try the Broad Spectrum Capsules.  He found that by making the switch, he was no longer getting an upsetting stomach.

2- Try buying the drops in the strongest potency. In order to take an 18 mg dose using the 600 mg Full Spectrum CBD oil, an individual would need to take 18 drops.  However if you purchase the 1800 mg Full Spectrum CBD oil, you could get that same dose by only taking 6 drops.

3- Try taking your oil after a meal or snack.  As with many supplements and medications, your CBD oil may hit your stomach better if it has something to land on. Taking you dose of CBD following a meal or snack might just be the key to keeping your stomach happy.

Migraine headaches are the third most common disease in the world effecting an estimated 14% of the global population. Although causes vary from person to person, research has shown that genetics and hormones play a major roll in the development of this disabling disease.  It is estimated that about 50% of migraine sufferers go undiagnosed and do not receive any form of medical treatment for their condition.
